Care and support at Canning Vale College (CVC) is provided by all staff and a dedicated Support Team coordinated by the Associate Principal of Inclusive Schooling. Student welfare is a whole school priority. Positive social skills emphasising respect for other people, their property, and their ideas; good physical and emotional health and well being; a positive and responsible attitude to life and learning are among the attributes that are fostered by CVC in assisting students to create their futures.
The Chaplain plays a vital role in supporting the college staff to ensure that the pastoral care needs of our students are catered for. They also form strong links with the surrounding community and liaise with outside agencies that can provide assistance.
The chaplain is available for all members of the college community to access for confidential pastoral care, counselling and support. Students may self refer to the chaplain and referrals will also be taken from staff and parents. The chaplain is available to assist and support students dealing with a wide range of issues relating to school, home/family, life and personal concerns, as well as the transition to high school.
Phone: 9334 9000 or 9334 9021 for an appointment.
All students have access to the college Health Centre which is located in the business centre and is staffed by a community nurse 5 days a week from 10am - 2pm. Students will be encouraged to attend the Health centre in their scheduled breaks and with staff permission will be able to attend during class time. Confidentiality is of utmost importance to ensure the health centre is a welcoming and safe facility for students. It is documented that students are unable to learn if they are unwell and as such parents are asked to keep students at home to recover and prevent unnecessary spread if illness through the college.
The college has the services of a School Psychologist. The school psychologist can offer support in a variety of ways and for a variety of reasons. Students can self refer to the psychologist or they may be referred by a staff member or at a parent request. Whilst the service is confidential, parent permission must be given for counselling to occur. Phone: 9334 9000 or 9334 9002 for an appointment.
